Margaret Creswell was born in 1843 in Independence County, Arkansas, United States, daughter of Lytle Buford Creswell (1815–1907) and Phoebe O'Neal (1825–1851), her father, Lytle, was 28, and her mother, Phoebe, was 18. In the 1850 census Margaret (age 7) was in Washington, Independence, Arkansas, United States.[1]She lost her mother when she was only 8 years old. She had three brothers and four sisters:
