Horace was born in 1836 in Vermont. He was the son of Silas Crosier and Eliza Morocco, and the brother of Civil War veterans Eugene and Silas Crosier of the all-black 54th Massachusetts regiment.

There's this perfect alignment in the census records with a white man named Halbert/Holbert Crozier, b. abt. 1838 Vermont, who lived in California (1860), Oregon (1900, 1910.) I can't find him in 1850 or 1880. No doubt a coincidence, but wanted to note it in case some white Croziers in Portland come looking for African ancestors after a genetic test ...
