William Cross was in Franklin County, Tennessee in 1808, where he bought land on the Elk River, owning 3000 acres in all. He sold this in 1816 and moved his family to Shelby County, Alabama. The tradition in the family is that the parents of Susannah Lane Cross were William Lane (B.1740; D.1808 in GA), a Revolutionary soldier and Nancy Allen Lane (B.1748 in VA; D.1802-03 in GA). They migrated from Va. to Wilkes County, Georgia about 1793. Susannah married William Cross against her father's wishes and he disowned her, so the tradition goes.
