May 19, before J. P. Stow S. M. and Dr Stevenson and Mr B. Cochrane, J's.P.—John Hokin, of Blinman, carpenter, was charged, on the information of Catherine Hokin, of Petersburg, under the " Married Womans' Protection Act, 1896," with—(1) desertion from July 1,1897, to date; (2) wilful neglect to provide reasonable maintenance for informant since July, '97, and wilful neglect to provide reasonable maintenance for informant's children, Winnifred Anne Hokin and John James Hokin and Percy Clement Benjamin Hokin, since July. 1897. Mr G.W. Halcome appeared for the informant. After hearing evidence by informant and witnesses the Court made an order as follows: (1) The informant be relieved from any obligation to cohabit with the defendant, (2) grant informant legal custody of children, (3) direct defendant to pay to G. W. Halcombe, of Petersburg, the sum of 15s per week, first payment due on May 26th, 1898.
