Biography

When Elijah W Crouch was born on September 24, 1776, in Hebron, Connecticut, his father, Thomas, was 39 and his mother, Mary, was 29. He married Eliza L Frizel in 1798. They had four children in 25 years. He died in November 1850 in Grand Ledge, Michigan, at the age of 74, and was buried there.

• Elijah's death is recorded as after June 17, 1843 as that was the date he received in Midena, Ohio a payment from estate of brother Caleb Crouch. It was also the last date we have been able to find any information on Elijah Crouch.

I was wondering through an antique mall, here in Texas, and passed by an old Bible sitting in a case. The owner was adamant I look at it because it was dated 1824 and he thought it was interesting (he was probably bored). In it were these names and dates. I'm wondering if these people are related to this Thomas F. Crouch as the names are similar. Crouch family names: Elijah W. b. Sep 24, 1775; Thomas F. b. Aug. 7,1798 and Christopher b. Aug 7 1798; Joshua R. b.Jan.1,1823; Caleb F. b.Jul 27, 1824; Lorinda M.,b. June 3, 1830 Mary Jane b. Mar 14, 1832 Listed as well were the names of 9 family members named Gross dating from 1784-1817 This Bible may have come from New York but difficult to tell as it was in poor condition. I saw online that Charles Crouch was doing research, but the website wasn't working properly to accept this info. Let me know if you want them or can shed light on any info. Elijah and Isaiah are thought to be the 3rd and 4th sons of Thomas F. Crouch. They were appointed to do inventory on Thomas' estate by brothers Richard and David. They are among the males listed under age 16 in the 1790 census in the Thomas Crouch household. Thier births would have occurred between 1775 and 1790.

I have found Ruben rather than Elijah listed as son of Thomas F. Crouch by several other researchers. They indeed might be one and the same person. I did find an Elijah Crouch listed in the 1800 census Oneida Co., NY and in the 1830 census Jefferson Co., NY. Also, I have found Ruben in census enumerations in Hebron Tolland Co., CT in 1790 and 1800. I do not believe Rueben is a son of Thomas because all of Thomas' children were living in the home in 1790 and a Rueben was listed as a close neighbor. Probably related but unknown how at this time. I list Elijah because that is the son who is named in Thomas F. Crouch's will, and he was appointed to do inventory on Thomas' estate along with his brother Isaiah by their brothers who were also executors, Richard and David Crouch in 1796
