Biography

Charles David Crowder was born 8 Jun 1865 in Virginia, USA. He was a son of Jacob Crowder and Elvira Matilda Sizer. [1] [2] His older siblings were:

  2. John Crowder
  3. Thomas Crowder
  4. Henry Crowder

1870s

In 1870, Charles Crowder (5) lived in New Castle Township, Craig County, Virginia with his father Jacob (45), mother Elvira (35), older siblings John (13), James (10), William (7), and younger sister Cora Anna (2). His father was a farmer; the value of his real estate was $900; the value of his personal estate was $255. [3]

1880s

In January 1880, his sister was born.

In 1880, David Crowder (14) continued living in New Castle with his family Jacob (54) and Elvira (44), older brothers James (20) and William (17), younger siblings Cora (12), Henry (10), Hattie (6), and unnamed sister (4m). His father continued farming, his mother kept the house, William was a farm laborer, David worked on the farm, Cora did housework, and Henry worked on the farm. [4]

1890s

On 30 Apr 1891, Charles Crowder married Lina Belle Dowdy in Botetourt County. [5] [6] Lina was the daughter of the late James Dowdy, Malinda (Damewood) Dogan. Her stepfather was John Dogan.

On 4 Apr 1892, his daughter Essie Lindel Crowder was born in Catawba, Botetourt County, Virginia. [7] [8]

In Jan 1894, his daughter Nelsie Raidee Crowder was born.

In Nov 1895, his son Thelmer Hawthorne Crowder was born.

In Oct 1897, his son Charles Cyrel Crowder was born.

In Nov 1899, his twin daughters Alleen Catharine "Katie" Crowder and Celestine Wetherspoon "Willie" Crowder were born.

1900s

In 1900, David Crowder (36) and Lina (28) lived in Amsterdam district, Fincastle town, Botetourt County with their six children Essie (8), Nelsie (6), Selma (4), Cyrel (2), Celestine (1), and Alline (1). David was a farmer. Lina was the mother of 6 children, all of which were still living. [9]

In May 1903, his son Gerald Winfried Leon Crowder was born.

About 1905, his son Wentworth G Crowder was born.

In Jan 1906, his daughter Dorothy Godwin Crowder was born.

In Oct 1908, his twin sons Carlyle Marshall Crowder and Edric D Crowder were born; Edric died a few days later.

1910s

In 1910, David C Crowder (44) and Lina (38) were living in Big Lick, Roanoke County with nine children Essie L (18), Nelsie R (16), Thelma H (14), Charles C (12), Katie A (10), Willie C (10), Wentford G (5), Dorothy O (4), Carlyle M (1); and his mother-in-law's brother Lina's uncle Anderson A Damewood (55). In the 1910s, his daughter Essie Crowder married Lake Feather.

1920s

In 1920, David Crowder (44) and Lina (48) were living in Big Lick with children Aleen (20), Celestine (20), Winfred (15), Dorthy (14), Carlisle (11); and Anderson Damewood (65). [11]

In Feb 1921, his daughter Aleen Catharine Crowder married John A Armbrister.

In Dec 1923, his daughter Aleen Armbrister died.

In 1925, his son Charles Crowder married Laurel R Levy.

1930s

In 1930, Charles D Crowder (64) and Lina B (58) were living in Lisbon, Bedford County with son Carlyle (21). [12]

In 1931, Lina's uncle Anderson Damewood died.

In 1933, Charles David Crowder died. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton, Roanoke County. [13]

Charles David Crowder (born 9 June 1865 - died 11 July 1934) married on 30 April 1891 to Lina Dowdy (born 8 Jan. 1872 - died 30 Jan 1919), the daughter of James and Melinda Adeline Damewood Dowdy (born 9 April 1850 - died 1919), the daughter of Park Damewood (born 19 Aug. 1811) and Selina Abbott (born 25 sept. 1817), who were married 29 April 1850. Adeline Damewood married (2) John Dogan, buried Daleville cemetery. (Lina Dowdy was a sister of Kate Dowdy who married Benjamin Crowder.) Children:
