Biography

Aline was born 31 March 1910 at St Anne’s Nursing Home, Mutley, Plymouth. Her birth certificate gives her name as Aileen Margaret Mary Cumming Macaskill, daughter of Addison Cumming Macaskill, lumber merchant of Mexico, and Katherine Macaskill (formerly Cameron), both of 40A Hyde Park Gate, Kensington, London.^[1]

She was married 25 April 1931 at Kensington Parish Church to Patrick William Dennis Craig; she was described as a spinster aged 21, residing at 19 Emperor’s Gate, Kensington, her father’s name and profession blank. The witnesses were Katherine Cumming (her mother) and (Lord) Craigavon, the groom’s father.^[2]

She was married secondly, 25 October 1935 at Marylebone Register Office, to Basil Andrew Murray, journalist; she was described as aged 25, the divorced wife of Patrick William Denis Craig, and again living at 19 Emperor’s Gate SW3. Her father was named as Addison Francis Baker Cresswell (deceased), of independent means.^[3]

Her third marriage was at the church of Our Lady of Victories, Kensington High Street, 11 December 1937, to Moray David Shaw McLaren, then working at the BBC. She was 27, a widow, again at 19 Emperor’s Gate (this time in SW7), her father blank.^[4]

In 1939 she was living at Knight’s Mill, Quenington, Gloucestershire, as Aline M. McLaren, married, born 31 March 1910; her occupation listed as unpaid domestic duties.^[5]

Her last marriage took place 4 May 1944, again at Marylebone Register Office, to Thomas Francis Jeune Hanbury, Lieut. Life Guards. She was then 34, the divorced wife of Moray David Shaw McLaren, and living with her new husband at 24a Portland Place W1. Her father was again given as Addison Francis Cresswell, deceased, of independent means.^[6]

She passed away in 1971 and was buried at Cowlinge, Suffolk.^[7]
