John James Cummings fought in the Black Hawk Wars under Capt Wm Wall's Cavalry in the Utah Territorial Military.

He was the son of John Cummings (1802, South Carolina) and Rachel Ann Canada (or Kenedy) Cummings, born 25 March, 1846 in Iowa. His siblings were Mary Jane Cummings (1833), William Cummings (1835), Isaac Cummings (1837), Sarah Ann Cummings (1839), Malinda Ann Cummings (1841), Nancy Elizabeth Cummings (1844), and John Harmon Cummings (1849).

John's first wife was Sophia Johnson, married February 27, 1865.

In the 1900 Census, John lived in Heber City, Wasatch, Utah, United States and had been married 10 years to A. Lenora Cummings (1872). The children at home were daughter Jetta A. HEBER CITY. - John James Cummings, 83, prominent sheep and cattle raiser, one of the very first settlers of Heber City, died of general debility, following influenza, at his home in Heber City Thursday. He was ill about four months.

Mr. Cummings was born in Montrose, Iowa, March 25,1846, and came to Provo in 1852 and to Heber City in 1862. He was always active in church and city affairs.

Mr. Cummings was married at Heber City to Sophia Johnson, who died forty years ago. Ten children were born to them, seven of whom survive as follows: John G.. Joseph W., Harmon, Alma. Lyman and Mrs. May Lloyd of Heber City; Mrs. Myrtle Austin of Lehi.

He was married a second time. May 7 1890, at Logan, Utah, to Lenora Duke. Nine children were born to this union, seven of whom, with their mother, survive as follows: Mrs. Jetta Austin of Lehi; Wade, Sadie, Nellie and Mrs. Grace DIckson of Heber City; Mrs. Lita Kimber of Los Angeles. Calif., and Mrs. Birdie Green of American Fork. Forty-four grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren are living.

Funeral services will be held in the Wasatch stake tabernacle Sunday at 1 p. m. Interment will be in the Heber City cemetery-
