Biography

Eliel Robson "Eli" Cummins aka Cummin was born in 1839 in Shildon, Durham, England to John Cummins and Elizabeth (Robson) Cummins. His birth was registered in Auckland, Durham in the first quarter of the year (as Eliol Cummin), with mother's maiden name Robson.[1]

Elsie Robson Cumings, son of John & Elizabeth, was christened on 24 Feb 1839 in Shildon.[2]

In 1841 Eliel Cummins (age 2) lived at Bank Top in Darlington, Durham with his father John (35-39, Millwright), mother Elizabeth (30-34), sister Elizabeth (5), brother John (4), and George Humble (35-39, Bai?? Smith?).[3]

In 1851 Eliel Robson Cummins (age 12, Scholar) lived at Green Street in Darlington with his father John (45, Engineer), mother Elizabeth (39), and five siblings: Elizabeth (17), John (14), Ralph (9, Scholar), Arthur (7, Scholar), and Septimus (1).[4]

In 1861 "Robert" Cummin (age 20, Engineer) lived at 33 Green Street in Darlington with his father John (54, Locomotive Engineering), mother Elizabeth (?), and six siblings: Elizabeth (26), John (24, Engineer), Richard (19, Engineer), Arthur (17, Engineer), Septimus (11, Scholar), and Ellen (9, Scholar).[5]

In 1871 Eli R Cummins (age 32, NSO[?]) was a lodger at Springfield Pla No 4, Bow St in Northfleet, Kent in the household of Eliza Dunstan (72, Annuitant) - also in the household were visitor Margrett Rawlings (52) and servant Selena Folwell [Colwell] (19, Servant).[6]

Eli Robson Cummins married Selina Colwell in 1871. The marriage was registered in Woolwich, London in the last quarter of the year.[7]

Eli and Selina had three daughters:

  1. Helen/Ellen Elizabeth Cummins (1872-)
  2. Ada Cummins (1874-)
  3. Maud Cummins (1875-)

In 1881 Eli R Cummins (age 41, Cement Agent) lived at 11 Cobham Street in Gravesend, Kent with his wife Selina (29) and three daughters: Ellen E (8, Scholar), Ada (7, Scholar), and Maud (5, Scholar).[8]

Eliel Robson Cummins passed away on 14 Nov 1884, aged 45 years. His death was registered in North Aylesford, Kent in the last quarter of the year.[9]

"10 February [1885]. Administration of the Personal Estate of Eliel Robson Cummin late of 5 Stanley-villas Vicarage-road Frindsbury near Rochester in the County of Kent Engineer who died 14 November 1884 at 5 Stanley-villas was granted at the Principal Registry to Selina Cummin pf 5 Stanley-villas Widow the Relict. Personal Estate £719 8s. 6d."[10]
