Boyce, I was very happy to spot your info on the web. My link to Woodson Daniel b. 1736 d. 1791 is through his daughter, Elizabeth Daniel b. 1767 Wake Co., NC d. 1834, m. William Clements (1782 I believe-I don't have my info directly in front of me at the moment), b. Jan 6 1755 Granville Co., NC, d. May 25 1834 Wake Co., NC. I can give you info on Elizabeth Daniel Clements' descendents all the way to myself, if you're interested at all in the William Clements/Elizabeth Daniel line. Elizabeth Daniel's husband, William Clements, served during the War of the Revolution as 1st Lieutenant - Hillsboro District (see Wheeler's History - 1st section page 80. See also Mrs. A. J. Ellis - Nat. No., for Woodson Daniel - 125395 DAR). Since I only know of Elizabeth Daniel, I would be very grateful if you could send me info on the rest of the Woodson/Nancy Daniel children. Woodson's daughter Elizabeth did in fact marry William CLEMENTS, Grizell's older (half?) brother 15 Mar 1779 in Wake Cty., NC. Secondly, Mary Rowan DANIEL wrote in "The First Families of Henry County, Georgia" that James (Grizzell's hsbnd.) was son of Woodson DANIEL. However, she also states Woodson is out of the Middlesex Cty., Va DANIEL's being a son of William DANIEL & Elizabeth WATKINS and that Woodson died in Greenville, NC. We have pretty much established that Woodson of Wake Cty., NC died in Wake Cty by his will and subsequent inventories in court records. Many believe Woodson was son of James DANIEL and Elizabeth WOODSON of Goochland Cty., VA, (Roger DANIEL line) and as it has been pointed out on list exchanges previously this has never been conclusively proven.

I have chosen to believe that Woodson was a son of James and Elizabeth WOODSON and that James, son of Woodson was James Daniel of Rowan Cty., NC who married the widow Rebecca Travis ADDERTON. James and Woodson's sons John, David, Benjamin are all at times living in Rowan Cty., NC in close proximity.

As Payne mentioned we have both corresponded with a professional researcher working for another party to establish the ancestry of one of David's daughters, who concurs with this thinking.

At any rate I have a stronger feeling that James and Grizell somehow fit into the Edmund, Thomas et al. DANIELS.

My information on Woodson Daniel, Sr. (b. 1736-1791) is solid. He married Nancy Gouge, daughter of John Gouge. Woodson went to Court in his wife's name in Johnston County about John Gouge and Nancy Gouge Daniel as Orphans of John Gouge. Woodson's son , James was named guardian of the young John Gouge. E-mail me and if I have anything on your Daniels, I'll send it to you. Let me know as much on your line as you can . I have a list of 10 of Woodson and Nancy's children, but nothing on the grand children.Boyce

I recently read an abstract of Woodson Daniel's will that differs from your post. This was listed in "Wake County North Carolina Abstracts of Wills, Iventories and Settlements of Estates 1771-1802" by Frances Holloay Wynn, Oracle Press, Baton Rouge 1984:

Hi Karen. I am not really responding to the Woodson Daniel post. Just wanted to run something by you as you seem to be one of the more active Daniel family researchers, and I am not sure if we have ever communicated before. Maybe you have run into these folks somewhere. Several records indicate that this family was from Virginia.

I descend from Thomas Daniel, ca 1750 - aft 1825. He first appears in records in Kentucky in 1789 and then moved to Illinois in 1807, where he disappears about 1825. He named one son Walker Daniel, and there is also some indication that members of this family lived in Georgia at some point, though I have never found where. The name Walker seems to indicate a possible connection to the Caroline County, VA Daniels. The given name of Estridge or Eastridge is very common in this family. Thomas Daniel had:

John 1773-1749 (a son name Eastridge). He married Rebecca Tipon ca 1797 in Montgomery County, KY and moved to Champaign County, OH ca 1807. Served War of 1812. Large family, all known.

William ca 1775-1829 (a grandson named Estridge). He married ca 1795 in Kentucky and moved to Illinois by 1807. He had a large family, few names known, and died in Alexander County, IL.

Thomas 1777-1743. He married Sarah Cainbell (Campbell?) ca 1800 in Kentucky. He moved to Champaign County, OH ca 1807. A large family, most known. Served War of 1812.

Estridge 1782-1852 (several descendents named Estridge). He married Mary Fox in 1805 in Montgomery County, KY and died there. Large family, most known. Served War of 1812.

James Daniel 1784-aft 1860 (son named Estridge). He married ca 1806, possibly in Georgia, Sarah Robinson. Records indicate that he was born in Virginia or Kentucky. He was in Clarke County, Al by 1812. Large family, most known. Served War of 1812.

Elizabeth ca 1788-aft 1816. Married Daniel Vincent in 1809 in Iliinois. Nothing else known.

Walker ca 1790-1829 (son named Eastridge). He was in Illinois with his father by 1812, but is also said to have spent time in Georgia. He married Martha Vincent in 1812 in Illinois. He died in Greene County, IL, where his father last appears. Served War of 1812.

All the sons seem to have been well educated and most served in the military, so weren't Quakers, etc. Elizabeth and Narcissa were common female names in this family. If you have or do run across any links to this family, please keep me in mind. Thanks, Kevin.

Woodrow [or Woodson] Daniel and Thomas Tomlinson of Wake County intend to build a gristmill on “Nuse River at or near Daniel’s fish damn which is about Six miles below the Mouth of the Three Rivers.” They also want about three acres of “Confiscated property” for the use of the mill. The small streams in their area dry up in the summer and the Nuse River would probably have plenty of water. They also think the mill would produce more profit than would fish.

Woodson Daniel's first name was probably "Benjamin", but for all my reports, I will refer to him only as Woodson Daniel for the sake of separating him from other "Benjamin Daniel" entries.

Entry in Johnston County, North Carolina about 1785-1790: #127-128-67 : Woodson Daniel in right of his wife, who with the last mentioned John Gouge are Orphans of John Gouge Deceased, James Daniel, guardian of John Gouge. This was researched by Boyce Morris,.Cougar2@bellsouth.net sent to me in May 8 2006. She said when she discovered this bit of information about Nancy Gouge she hollered and the whole library heard her..she was so excited to find this information that no one else had until she uncovered it.. (that Nancy Gouge was Woodson's wife)
