John Wilson "Jack" Daniels was born on 31 October 1923 in Pottawattamie, Iowa, United States. He was the last of four children born to Robert William Daniels Sr. (1893–1948) and Adele Marie Davis (1894–1987).

The family moved to Hobbs, N.M. in 1937 during the oil boom years and in 1937 his father founded Bob Daniels & Sons, Inc.[4]
Jack graduated from Hobbs High School in 1941. He then attended New Mexico Military Institute where he graduated in 1943.
John Wilson Daniels registered for the U.S. World War II Draft on 30 June 1942 in Hobbs, New Mexico.[5]
LT (JG) John W. Daniels, USNR, served in World War II in the U.S. Navy from 23 Oct 1942 until 16 Aug 1944 as an enlisted person and then as an officer until 1946. He served aboard the USS Vandivier (DE-540), USS Wallace Lind (DD-703), and USS Walton (DE-361). [6]
While with the U.S. Navy, he graduated from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States.[7]
John Wilson "Jack" Daniels married Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Donley (1924–2014) in 1946.
They were the parents of:
Dana Adele Daniels Reaud
Diane Daniels Denish (1949- ), twice Lt Governor of New Mexico.
Robert Guy Daniels (1951–2005)
Alongside his parents and brother, he built Daniels Insurance, Inc. into a strong family business and later purchased the First National Bank of Lea County. He enjoyed a life of public service which began as a member of the Hobbs Water Board where he served for 20 years. He served as President of many organizations including the Hobbs Chamber of Commerce, NM Amigos, NM Independent Insurance Agents, and NM Bankers Association.
He was appointed by Governor Jack Campbell to the State Investment Council in 1963 and later became a New Mexico State Representative and chaired the House Education Committee. In 1970 he was a primary candidate for Governor losing to his good friend Governor Bruce King. In 1972 he was the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate losing by a narrow margin to current Senator Pete V. Domenici.
John Wilson "Jack" Daniels died on 3 September 2003 in Hobbs, Lea County, New Mexico. He was buried in the Prairie Haven Memorial Park in Hobbs, Lea, New Mexico.[8]
Jack was in an obituary in Albuquerque, New Mexico.[9]
