Sverre Dogfinn was born on 19 June 1898 to Jakob Karl Arnold Velde and Dortea Danielsdtr at Alvdal parish, Alvdal municipality, Hedmark.[4]
Edda Solveig was born on 9 October 1899 to Jakob Karl Arnold Velde and Dortea Danielsdtr at Alvdal parish, Alvdal municipality, Hedmark.[5]
Jakob passed away in 1900. Dorothea lived in the home of Sigvard Welde at Rural residence: 0011 Lille-Elvedalens dampmeieri in Lille Elvedalen, Hedmark, Norway with her son, Sverre. She was described in the 1900 census as (translation): "Widow of fv. dairy manager J. Welde, living on interest money."[1]
Dorothea and her children, Sverre and Edda emmigrated from Norway to America in 1903 with the intention to travel to St. Paul, Minnesota.[6]

Dorothea was only 26 years old when her husband died 39 years old. She was alone with the 2 kids, 1 and 2 years old. She decided to emmigrate to her sister Karen Johanne and her husband Ole Roland. She travelled in1903 via Liverpool, England to New York with the ship "Carpathia" and "Bergensfjord". Reason for the travel together with Dagfin and Edda was aiming for her sister in St. Paul, Minnesota.
