Biography

"Aaron Douglas was the son of Thomas Darnall, recognized as one of the pioneers of Grand View." Son, William Daughetee, settled in Paris, IL and was able to share his knowledge during the writing of the Edgar County History used as a source here. Son, John Parker Darnall, came to Edgar County about 1 year prior to Aaron and Moses Wallace Darnall.[1]

Aaron and Moses moved to Sims Fairfield Precinct, Edgar County, IL in 1823 to take John's claim due to his death of "Orleans Fever". They settled at the head of Big Creek.

Both Aaron and Moses became ministers of the Gospel. Aaron served as a "Baptist minister of considerable note" in Edgar County until 3 years prior to his death[2] while Moses moved to Wisconsin.

Aaron was reportedly married 4 times: Sally Doke, Angelina Chaney, Polly Turpin, Mary Jones.

Sally Doke and Aaron were married at Catfish Point, Edgar County, IL according to their oldest son Andrew.

Aaron was a land speculator buying and selling tracts all over Edgar County, IL. in the areas of New Athens, Horace, & Isabel.

Aaron fathered 10 children among the 4 wives.

Aaron died 4 years before the Edgar County History was published.

The Darnall family was from Kentucky.

Research Notes

I noticed that his mother's maiden name is spelled two different ways Daughhetee for her and Daughetee as a 2nd given name for her son, William in case this was a typo - I personally do not know.(KW)
The Hx of Edgar County, IL source has more information on the Darnall family and others in case anyone wants to read and transcribe info into individual Wiki profiles. Much has already been added to this greater family's profiles - you would need to preview what has already been covered.[1]

I agree with Sally Doke [Doke-12] as wife #1 of [Darnall-165]

and Angeline Cheney or Chaney [Chaney-781] as wife #2 of [Darnall-165] ... however ... Until I saw this showing a difference ... showing in the bio as Polly Turpin and Mary Jones as two different women, I personally had Polly being the same person as Jane and being his 3rd wife. I know that the marriage dates had something to do with my thinking in that direction. My last work brought me to this view:

I had Polly's given name as Mary C. Nickname "Polly". Maiden Surname: Janes or Jaynes.

I don't have time to put anything more on my plate to do ... I haven't had the chance to look into Polly Turpin .... which I feel needs to be done so that she is truly substantiated with an accurate name with substantiated parents and profiled. Maybe I'll get to it or maybe not, but for now I thought I would put this note here for other Darnall/Darnell enthusiasts to share their collaborative spirit and weigh in on this being two people instead of one. I believe in team work and heaven forbid, I could be wrong. Hoping to see what others bring.

FYI: Find-a-Grave Memorial# 90774756 shows Aaron's middle name as Daniel rather than Douglas. All my info says Aaron D Darnall, so I can't substantiate either YET.
