Biography

James Anders was born in Burke Co Ga, Sep 3, 1820, son of John and Jane English Darsey. He moved with his parents to Decatur Co Ga in 1824 and grew to manhood there. As a young unmarried man he came to Lowndes Co Ga (now Lanier) where he married Nancy, youngest daughter of Capt. Jesse Carter on Jan 25, 1846. She was born June 26, 1845. They had 11 children.

Mr & Mrs Darsey aquired the old home-place plantation of her father after her mother's death in 1858, and lived there until they died. Nancy died Feb 27th, 1881 and James died Nov 12, 1892. They are buried at Burnt Church cemetary in Lakeland Ga. Mrs Darsey's mother (Mary aka Molsey) lived with them until her death in 1858.

Mr Darsey was a member of the Masonic fraternity. He received his degrees in St. John the Baptist Lodge # 184 at old Troupville in 1855. He became a charter member of the Alapaha Lodge # 209 at Statenville, Feb 1857. In October of the same year, he entered into the organization of Butler Lodge # 211 at Milltown (now Lakeland) as a charter member. He served as Junior Steward in 1875 and Junior Deacon in 1878. He was a member at the dissolution of the lodge around 1884. He was a farmer and farmed over 1000 acres acquired from Nancy's father Capt Jesse.
