Biography

Samuel was born about 1866. He was the son of Joseph Date and Mary Tickell. His mother died when he was 12. His father also became ill and was living in the Wandsworth and Clapham Union Infirmary by the time Samuel was 15. Samuel lived with the family of Samuel and Eliza North in Wandsworth and obtained work as a telegraph and then a railway clerk. By the time he was 35 he had moved to Windsor, married Kate Searle (1863-1946) and they had 5 children, Ethel, George, Albert, Helen and Minnie, born in 1888, 1890, 1891, 1893 and 1896. Samuel passed away about 1911, a year after Albert married Victoria Apps. Albert married again to Elsie Rowbottom in 1916 and to Gladys Dover in 1920 with whom he had a child. There are no marriage records for Ethel who passed away in 1979, but Minnie married William Belton in 1919 and she passed away in 1980. George and Helen died as infants.
