The son of Joseph Davenport and his wife, Abigail, John Davenport was born in Newberry County, South Carolina in 1832.[citation needed] He lived there with his family.[1] His siblings included:

Catherine Davenport (1848-)
John Davenport married Catherine (Stockman) Thrift, marrying in 1856[citation needed] and having three known children together and taking up residence in the town of Newberry.[2] He enlisted, in, 1862 in Rhett's Company (Brook's Home Guard), under the command of Capt. Senn, of the Confederate States Army. He died that same year, thought to have perished in Virginia, during the Civil War.[3]
