1871 Census

In the 1871 census, Benjamin Davies, 3, was living with his parents and three siblings in the household of his maternal grandfather, John Griffiths.^[1] The location of the residence was 31 Broad Street, Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil (approx: 51.763,-3.3585).

1881 Census

In the 1881 census, Benjamin Davies, 13, was living in the household of his father Samuel Davies, still at 31 Broad Street, Dowlais.^[2]

1891 Census

In teh 1891 census, the family was still intact and still living at 31 Broad Street.^[3] Samuel Davies was 67, an "overman of furnaces." Mary was 62. David was a carpenter, 31. Benjamin was a fireman, 23. Martha was 20, a dressmaker. Also in the household was "Margaret Jones," listed as a granddaughter.

Marriage

Findmypast shows a marriage between Benjamin Arthney Davies and Margaret Jane Williams in the first quarter of 1897.^[4]

1901 Census

In the 1901 census, Benjamin Arthney Davies, 33, was head of househould at 1 Tanybryn Street in Aberdare.^[5] His wife was Maraget Jane Davies, 31. Benjamin's occupation was Railway Engine Driver. The record indicates that he was born in Dowlais, Glamorgan. The location of present-day 1 Tanybryn Street is approx. 51.7104,-3.4469.

1911 Census

In the 1911 census, Benjamin Davies, 43, Railway Engine Driver, was head of household at 1 Tanybryn Street in Aberdare.^[6] His wife Mary was 41. They had two sons in the household: Trevor Davies, 11, and John Benjamin Davies, 6. The family spoke both English and Welsh. The record indicates that Mary had had five children, three of whom had died and two were living.

Death Record

According to his death record, in 1943 his son Trevor Davies was a bank manager who would have been in his early 40s at that time. An ancestry family tree shows that John Benjamin Davies died in 1996 in Pontrypridd.
