George was born in 1817 in Crichton, the son of John Davies and Ann Lindsay[1].
His first marriage was to Hannah Telford[2]. She died in 1846 from "decline"[3]. On George's death registration, her name is recorded as "Hannah Young". George and Hannah do not appear to have had any children; there is only one baptism with a surname of "Davies" and father of "George" between 1840 and 1848, and the mother was Julia Hume. At the 1851 census the only children living with George Davies are those from his second wife.
The 1841 census shows George and Hannah living in St. Cuthbert's[4]. The last name has been transcribed as "Davis".
He next married Margaret Scott on the 27th of June 1848[5].
In 1851 he was living in Hawick with his wife, daughter Margaret (aged 2) and son John (aged 6 months). His occupation was "Flesher" and his age was 32. His birthplace is difficult to decipher but was in Midlothian[6]
He died on the 27th of March, 1872, in Hawick[7][8]. His cause of death was dropsy. He was listed as the husband of Margaret Scott and the widower of Hannah Young.
