Biography

Charles William Davis was born in the Colony of Victoria (1851-1900)

William was born in 1883, in Kaniva, Victoria, Australia. He was the son of Charles Davis and Elizabeth Gray [Grow]. ^[1]

William (17) was in a Victorian Police Gazette, dated 28 Feb 1900 in Victoria, Australia. It states: GASH and a boy, name unknown, are charged, on warrants, with wilful damage to property of George Cooper, hotel-keeper, Warracknabeal, at Warracknabeal, on the night of the 22nd inst. Descriptions:-1st. About 17 years of age; 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, fair hair, no hair on face; wore a black suit and a soft-felt hat. 2nd. About 17 years of age; 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, fair hair, no hair on face; wore a dark suit and a dark soft-felt hat. The first rode a bay horse, the second a black horse. The offenders are identical with two boys, George Gash and William Charles Davis, the latter of whom is charged, on warrant, with larceny from the dwelling of his father, William Charles Davis, at Swan Hill (see this week's issue of the Police Gazette).-O.1684. 26th February, 1900. ^[2] William had been charged, on warrant, with stealing a pair of woollen blankets, with red binding, value 10s., from the dwelling of his father, William Charles Davis, farmer, Mumble Plains, near Swan Hill, on 19 Feb 1900. He rode a 3-year old bay blood filly, accompanied by George Gash. Both boys had taken swags and went through Lalbert, and presumed to be heading to Harrow. ^[3]

He married Kathleen Burr on 12 Feb 1907 in St Patrick's Church, Lithgow, New South Wales, Australia. [On 22 Mar 2019, G Ball, an Ancestry member corrected the surname, due to an error in transcription. It should read Charles W Davis rather than Charles M Davitt]. ^[4]

He passed away in 1963, and was buried in the Nyngan General Cemetery, Nyngan, New South Wales, Australia. ^[5][6]
