Adam was born in 1793. He was the son of Adam Dawson and Frances McKell. He was a politician and for nearly 20 years Provost of the burgh of Linlithgow (1830–1848). He was a principal partner of A & J Dawson of St Magdalene Distillery
He passed away in 1873.
