Biography

Elisabet de Nijs was born in 1719 in Amsterdam. She was the daughter of Gerardus de Nijs and Maria Jacobs. Elisabet was baptized Roman Catholic on October 25, 1719. The witnesses were Thomas de Nijs and Gerritie Jacobs.[1]

22 year old Cornelis Brant, living in the Roosestraat, and 20 year old Elisabet de Nijs, living on the Roosegracht, posted their notice of marriage on April 30, 1739 in Amsterdam. Cornelis was accompanied by his mother Susanna de Laater, Elisabeth by her mother Maria Jacobs.[2]

Elisabeth de Neijs, wife of Cornelis Brandt, residing at the Roosegragt, southside near the Baangragt, was buried on 4 September 1768, leaving behind 5 minor children: Didelof, Fredrik, Susanna, Johannes, and Elizabeth.[3]
