Biography

Maijke was born to a Paulus de Wijs of Buren. I can't find any sources for a Paulus as of yet.

Surname meaning: the Dutch word "wijs" translates to "wise", so I think the surname "de Wijs" simply means "the wise" and came into use as a distinguishing remark.

Rijck Hendricksen, bachelor, and Maijke Paulus de Wijs, bachelorette, both from Buren, were married in the Hervormde Kerk of Buren on the 28th of January, 1681; the banns were published there on the 9th. [1]
