Biography

Mr. Aubrey Rea Deal. 73, native of Saline County, who had been living at Clinton, Ia. since about 1934, died about seven o'clock Tuesday morning, March 4. at his home in Clinton. For many years a prominent farmer and stockman, Mr. Deal had retired about two years ago.

The body is being brought today from Clinton to Saline county for burial, and will be at the Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held in the Campbell-Lewis chapel at 2 p.m. Friday, and burial will be in the Salt Springs cemetery about eight miles west of Marshall, halfway between Shackelford and Mt. Leonard.

Mr. Deal was born south of Mt. Leonard on August 7, 1878, the son of Julius H. and Florence Fulkerson Deal. He was married in 1901 to Lydia Wright, and they lived on a farm near Mt. Leonard. Six children were born to them, two dying in infancy. Surviving are Homer Deal of Napton, Rea Deal of Hardeman, and John Deal and Miss Frances Deal of Mt. Leonard. His first wife died June 6, 1913.

In 1915 Mr. Deal moved to a farm near Mayview, later going to Independence, where he contracted to carry the mail from the depot to the post office.

In 1920 he was married to Mary McMullen of Independence, who survives him. Two children, Ralph and Anna Mae, were born to them. Both live in Kansas City. Also surviving are three brothers, J. Maurice Deal and Oney F. Deal, both of Mt. Leonard, and Raymond Deal of Whittier, California. Mr. Deal had eleven grandchildren.

He joined the Methodist Church in Malta Bend at an early age.

Mr. Deal was an energetic, hard-working farmer. In addition, he was also civic minded and took an interest in community affairs wherever he was living. Friendly and jovial, in disposition, he was well liked and had a wide circle of friends who will mourn his passing.
