Biography

R. H. Delamater was born in 1817. He passed away after 1880. R. H. Delamater is noted as being a "radical abolitionist" in his village of Dryden, Tompkins Co., NY. He is also noted as being the owner of Delamater's drugstore in three different ads in "Rumsey's Companion" newspaper, also listed in a 25 year newspaper remembrance piece of Dryden Herald newspaper, and again on May 9th, 1900

It was announced that R.H. opened a new shop, one door down from his drug store, to manufacture carriages, wagons and sleighs. This ad appeared in Dryden News on 7/8/1858.

DRUG STORE - Text of Ad R. H. Delamater’s has constantly on hand a good assortment of choice Drugs and Medicine, all of which will be sold as low as any other establishment in the county. The following area few of the numerous articles that may be found: Pure and genuine Alcohol, Camphene, Burning Fluid, Opium, Morphine, Quinine, SugarLead, Castor Oil, Olive Oil, Carbonate Soda, Spirits Niter, Aqua Amnonia Hydrate, Potassium, Bieromate, Epsom salts, Gum Arabis, Alsee Aquafedita, Rhubarb, Pink Root, Worm Seed, Senna, Gum Camphor, and the Essential Oils such as Wintergreen, peppermint, cinnamon, cloves, hemlock, lemon. A liberal share of patronage is respectfully solicited. A general assortment of Patent Medicines kept constantly on hand.

R.H. Delamater is listed as owner of an oyster saloon, where he also sold pickled pigs feet, drugs and medicine in Dryden Weekly News, dated only 1859.
