Biography

Rachel Jane DeMouth was born in New Jersey in April 1862. She was the daughter of Elijah DeMouth and Margaret Morgan.

In 1865, she was living with her parents and siblings in Monmouth, Passaic, New Jersey.^[1] [She was probably with the family in the 1870 census in Monroe, Orange, New York, but the children names and birth dates are quite jumbled].^[2]

At the age of 31, Rachel married Harry Weeden on May 28, 1893, in Warwick, Orange, New York, when he was 22.^[3] (Rachel's sister Harriet married Harry's brother Theodore in 1882 ). They had two children - Franklin Rude and Ethel DeMouth.

In 1895, the couple and their son lived in Phillipsburg, Warren, New Jersey.^[4] In 1900 and 1905, the family lived in Lopatcong, Warren, New Jersey, and Harry worked as a brakeman and fireman on the railroad.^[5][6] In 1910, they had relocated to Warwick, Orange, New York, and Harry was employed as a railroad engineer.^[7]

In 1915, Rachel headed a household with her two children and her mother-in-law in Warwick, Orange, New York, listing herself as married but with her husband not present, either by estrangement or for work reasons.^[8] In 1920, she was living with her daughter Ethel and husband in Warwick, Orange, New York.^[9]

Rachel reached 58 years of age and died in Warwick, Orange, New York, on March 18, 1921.
