Research notes
The 1939 UK Census has a married couple Elsie and William Cotterill, however someone has hand-written CLARKE next to her name - could be a maiden name? Coincidentally Samuel and Alice Diggle are included on the same page but different street. There is an ancestry tree citing this Elsie as Samuel and Alice's daughter, however this may be a mistake (?) as there are more than one Elsie Diggle's in Lancashire with same birth year?
