Tweed Daily (Murwillumbah, NSW), Mon 14 Jan 1946, p.2

OBITUARY MR. G. E. DINSEY

The death of Mr George Eric Dinsey, of Tumbulgum, occurred in Tweed District Hospital early on Saturday morning.

Son of Mr James Dinsey, of Tumbulgum, and the late Mrs Dinsey, George Dinsey was born of Tumbulgum 53 years ago.

He received his early education at Tumbulgum and then went on to Fort Street, Sydney, where he received the honor cap for 1909 for the best all-round average in studies and sport.

In his younger days he was one of the Tweed's outstanding cricketers and footballers.

He saw four years active service with the 14th Field company Engineers in the First World War, and on his return engaged in sugar cane growing, in which branch of primary production his father was also interested.

His grandfather, whose name he bore, was one of the early settlers of the Tweed, taking up land above Tumbulgum in 1867. Part of this original selection is still worked by the Dinsey family. Of a kindly and generous nature, he was known far and wide, and particularly to the older generation of Tweed Diggers.

In addition to his father he leaves a widow, Mrs Eleanor Dinsey Miss June Mary Dinsey, of the staff of the Rural Bank, Murwillumbah, is a daughter by his first marriage. His first wife, who was Miss Eva Mary Coghlan, died in 1934. Four sisters also survive him. They are Mrs W. Watkins (Winifred), of Sydney: Mrs O. Charles (Ina), Sydney; Mrs W. H Savill (Margaret), Sydney; and Mrs D. Keeshan (Mary), Cudgen Headland.

The funeral took place yesterday afternoon. After a service in St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, the cortege moved to the Presbyterian portion of the Murwillumbah general cemetery. The Rev. Charles Yuill conducted the services at the church and the grave side.

Returned soldiers formed a guard of honor at the church and graveside and Mr A. S. Venn placed a wreath from the RSSAILA.

Pall and wreath bearers were mainly returned soldiers. The pallbearers were Messrs J. Dawson, D. R. Avery, E. Walsh, J. A. Wilson, J. H. Williams. and A. Venn.

The wreaths were carried by Sgt. Booth and Messrs T. Prince, F. Dinsey, A. Prince, N. Sulley, J. J. Richards, J. C Price and J. Keeshan.

While the coffin was draped with the Union Jack at the grave side Mr 'Sonny' Thompson sounded 'The Last Post.'

The funeral arrangements were in the hands of Mr Len Holston.[2]
