The household also included J E R Ray (age 35, lawyer, farmer, Secretary of State) and his family. George was working as a judge of the Common Law Court in Memphis. He owned real estate valued at $20,000 and personal estate valued at $12,000.[1]
In 1870 he was 52 years old and living in Memphis, Shelby County, with a large household. He was working as an attorney and owned real estate valued at $100,000 and personal estate valued at $25,000.[2]
In 1880 he was boarding with Frank and Sarah W Williams at 60 Monroe Avenue in Memphis.[3]
George Dixon died in December 1883 while on a business trip to Pennsylvania and was buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis on 19 December 1883.[4][5]
In 1860, George was enslaving 12 people ranging in age from four to 50 years old in Shelby County, Tennessee.[6]
