Biography

The daughter of John Dixon (1795-1877) and Elizabeth Boyd (1799-1868), Sarah Dixon was born in Wayne County, Tennessee[citation needed] in 1835, residing there with her family.[1]

Sarah married James Perry Hollis, marrying in Wayne County, Tennessee on July 7, 1853[citation needed] and having eleven known children together. They made their home in 1860 in Henryville, Tennessee, in Lawrence County,[2] residing by 1870 in Waynesboro, Tennessee.[3][4]

Widowed in 1890, Sarah lived in Waynesboro, in 1900, with her youngest son, Arthur, in her household.[5] By 1910, Sarah and her son lived in Collinwood, Tennessee.[6] In 1920, residing in Collinwood, at the age of 85, Sarah still farmed, working on her own account.[7] Her household included her 41-year-old son, Arthur, who farmed with her; her 10-year-old granddaughter, Etta Hollis; and her 20-year-old granddaughter, Emma Luker.

Sarah Hollis passed away at the age of 92 and is buried at Bethlehem Cemetery in Wayne County, Tennessee.[8]
