He enlisted in the United States Army on 1 Sep 1948.

He was married to Geraldine Barnhardt (1934-1994) on 4 Jun 1952 in Rowan County, North Carolina.

In 1958 he was livinig with his wife at 19 Court Avenue in Columbus, Georgia. His occupation was "United States Army".

He was discharged from the United States Army on 1 Apr 1969.[4] According to his grave stone he received the Silver Star and Bronze Star Medal.[9]
On 9 Dec 1971, while working in a factory, a steel beam slid off a pile and crushed him. He died within minutes.
[10][4] He was buried at Rowan Memorial Park Cemetery in Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina.

Note by Allan Capps on 25 May 2023: His grave stone lists his death date as 12 Apr 1971, however, his death certificate lists the death date as 9 Dec 1971 and was signed by the medican examiner on 10 Dec 1971.
