Biography

Catherine was born in 1865, the daughter of Timothy and Anna (Rodden) Dolly. She grew up in Rock Island and married, in 1890, William Joens ^[1] who owned a men's furnishing store in Davenport, Iowa. They had two children. After William died in 1912, Catherine and the children moved to Detroit where she lived the remainder of her life, living with her daughter Hazel and family in her later years. ^[2] Catherine passed away in 1955 and is buried in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Davenport, Iowa. ^[3] Her short obituary, which appeared in the Rock Island Argus read:

Funeral services for Mrs. William Joens, former Davenporter who died Friday in Detroit, will be held a 10:20 a.m. Tuesday in the Halligan funeral home. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Mount Calvary cemetery.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. William J. Ulrich, Detroit; a son, William J., Tucson, Ariz; a brother, Ed T. Dolly, Rock Island; a sister, Mrs. Edward LaPointe, Portland, Ore., and eight grandchildren. Her husband died in 1912.
