9th March 1798 – born Wishaw, second son of William Douglas (1772-aft.1851) and Margaret McNab

1st February 1836 – Margaret, a lawful daughter of William Douglas, Smith and Eliza. McAllister bd Glasgow – witnessed by James Douglas and John Bain

After February 1836 – death of Elizabeth McAllister

By 1841 – resident in London

1st March 1841 – Marriage of William Douglas II, Stonemason, widower and Susan Gantlett at Christ Church, Southwark. William and Susan’s addresses are both given as 30 Church Street. William Douglas I is described as a Mariner. There is no suggestion that he is deceased. James Wright and Mary Douglas are listed as witnesses

6th June 1841 – William and Susan Douglas listed at William Street Lambeth in 1841 census

6th June 1841 – William Douglas (aged 11) and Robert Douglas (7) are listed with their grandparents William Douglas (1772-aft.1851) and Margaret Douglas at Claythorne Street, Glasgow

30th November 1841 – birth of James Douglas (1841-1917) and James Douglas (1841-1917) at 49 Roupell Street. Father William Douglas, profession Stonemason; mother Susan Douglas (formerly Gauntlett) (Registered Lambeth; Sub-district Waterloo First Part 27th December 1841)

1845 – birth of George Douglas (1845-1925) 1849 – birth of Elizabeth Douglas (abt.1849-)

30th March 1851 – William II and Susan Douglas listed at 7 Warden Street Lambeth, with children James (9), John (9), George (5) and Elizabeth (2).

30th March 1851 – William I and Margaret Douglas listed at 36 Claythorne Street, St John’s, Glasgow with grandchildren William III (21), Robert (17) and Andrew Douglas (16). William I’s place of birth is given as Cambusnethan, Lanark and Margaret’s as Stirling. William I, Robert and Andrew are all listed as born in Glasgow.

8th October 1851 – birth of Walter Joseph Douglas (1851-1916), son of William Douglas, Stonemason and Susan Douglas, formerly Gantlett, at 7 Ward Street, Lambeth. (Registered in Lambeth; sub-district St Mary’s 16th November 1851)

1854 – birth of Walter Joseph Douglas (1851-1916) 1856 -birth of Jane Louisa (Douglas) Hove (1856-1903)

7th April 1861 – William II and Susan Douglas listed at 7 Ward Street, Lambeth with children James (19), John (19), George (15), Elizabeth (12), Walter (9), Susan (6) and Jane Louisa (4). Walter’s profession is given as Stonemason, Journeyman (ie apprentice) James as Blacksmith, Journeyman, John as Carpenter, Journeyman and George as Copperplate Printer, Journeyman

18th June 1861 – William II died at 7 Ward Street aged 62 – cause of death Schirosis of the Pancreas (6 months certified). The death was reported on 19th June by J Douglas (not clear whether this was James or John) of 7 Ward Street, who was present at the death.
