Biography
James Douglas and his twin brother John Douglas were born on 30 November 1841, the eldest of the seven children children of William Douglas (abt.1799-1861) and Susan Gantlett (1813-1865) although William is believed to have had a previous son with Lidia Parrot in 1824.

- James Douglas's birth in 1841 was registered with the General Register Office (Oct – Dec1841 – James Douglas – Lambeth – IV 268) as were his marriage to Mary Ann Collis in 1867 (Apr – Jun 1867 James Douglas and Mary Ann Collis – Newington 1d 247) and his death in 1917 (Apr – Jun 1917 – James Douglas 75 – West Ham 4a 261).
He was born a few months too late to appear in the 1841 census, but appears in the censuses of 1851, 1861, 1871,1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911.
