Biography
Margaret was born in 1792 and christened on 13 January 1793. She was the daughter of James Downie and Mary Leys.[1] In 1822, Margaret married William Cumming. She passed away in 1884 at the age of 91.[2]
Note: DOUNIE/DOWNIE/DOWNEY
Margaret's maiden name was DOUNIE or DOWNIE. The family name most probably emanates from North Eastern Scotland from the old Barony of Douny or Downie in Angus, Aberdeenshire. Over the last 2 centuries, the DOUNIE/DOWNIE/DOWNEY name has been the second given name of numerous descendants of the Cumming, Allsop and Jones families.
