Biography

Christina, was born about 1831 in Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland. Parents being John Dow and Herriot Lindsay.

1841 Residence 81 Robertson Place, Kilmarnock Ayrshire, Christina is 9 years old, her father John Dow is 40, occupation Worsted Hand Loom Weaver and her mother Herriot Lindsay is 35 years old. siblings living in the household are Agnes 15, Herriot 13, Robert 11, Elisebeth 7 , Mary 5, Ann 3, and Jean who is only 9 months old . ^[1]

1848 Christina is about 17 years of age when she marries Thomas McGill who is about 19/20 years of age, in Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland. ^[2]

1851 Christina and her husband Thomas are found living at Davids Lane, Kilmarnock. Christina is about 20 and a Hawker Wife, Thomas is about 21 years of age and his occupation is that of a Hawker. Their first known child's name is recorded as "Heret" age of 1 year. All born in Kilmarnock, Ayr. ^[3]

I Lose track of Christina and her husband Thomas. It is possible that Thomas has died between 1850 - 1869. As Christina marries a 2nd time.

1869 Christina marries David Laughland, in Hutchesontown, Glasgow, Lanark ^[4]

1871 Residence 3 Commercial Road, Hutchesontown, Christina Laughland is 39 years old and the wife of David Laughland, age 45 , occupation Bootmaker. David's children form his 1st marriage are also in the household, Robert age 21, Margaret age 16, David age 13 and John age 6.^[5]

1881 Residence 254 St James Street, Kinning Park, Lanarkshire, Christina is 49 years old and David is 55, occupation Bootmaker. Child still at home is John now 16 years old. ^[6]

1909 Christina Laughland, age 77 years, died at the Cunningham Combination Poorhouse in Irvine, Ayrshire. Widow of 1st Thomas McGill and 2nd David Laughland. Cause of death Senile Debility. Informant Harriet Kidd, daughter. ^[7]
