He married Elizabeth "Betsey" Ingraham about 20 November 1848 (this was the date the license was issued) in Dale County, Alabama. (Her tombstone was engraved with the name Elizabeth Parker Dowling.)[1] They were the parents of about ten children.
According to a memorial written by his nephew N. P. Dowling and published about him, "He was happily converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church South, near Ozark in 1849; was licensed to preach as a local preacher about 1852 and preached throughout this section at camp meetings, protracted meetings, house to house meetings, and grove meetings...He remained a member of the M. E. Church South, for about 50 years and then joined the Methodist Protestant Church and was licensed as a preacher in that church at the time of his death. It chanced that he preached his last sermon in this section at Old Claybank Church, the church of his youth and the greater portion of his manhood, built and for many decades, maintained by his father and immediate relatives in main. "[2]
Reverend Zinnamon Dowling passed away on 01 May 1907 in Bellwood, Geneva County, Alabama. He was buried in Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery, Bellwood, Geneva County, Alabama.[3]
Georgia Dowling (Abt. 1860-?) (Georgia is not on the 1870 U S Census, and Joicy is not on the 1880 Census, but the position is the same, so there is a probability Georgia and Martha Joicy are the same person)
