Biography
Albion C Drinkwater
is the 6th generation of this surname found in early America, a descendant of Thomas Drinkwater.
Served in the United States Union Army 1863-1865
Private, Co. A, 1st Regiment, Maine Cavalry
Albion, the son of Joseph Drinkwater and Mary Alexander, was born in 1845 in Topsham, Sagadahoc, Maine.[1]
He enlisted at age 18 in the winter of 1863 in the 1st District of Columbia Cavalry, which was consolidated with the First Maine Cavalry. In December 1864 he was captured near Petersburg, Virginia, and taken to Richmond, where he was confined during the winter in Libby Prison, and exchanged in March 1865. He was at the surrender of Lee at Appomattox on April 9, 1865, having immediately rejoined his regiment after regaining his liberty.
