Biography

John Dudley is named in his father's 1746 will:

...Also, I Bequeath the one halfe of my stock of Cattle and horses (except the mare and her encrease that is called my wifes), to he divided betwixt my Sons, Thomas and John, and their heirs and assignes for ever;...[1]

0ct. 26, 1756. John Dudley of Johnston Co. , N. C. , to David and William Dudley for 10 pounds 150 acres on S\V side of NW branch of Grant's creek, near the swamp, to the main branch, which is one half of 300 acres granted to John Dudley, Apr. 11 , 1749. Tests: Stephen Lee, Joseph Wells.

Mar. 5, 1760. William Dudley to Stephen Lee, Esq., for 125 pounds 100 acres on Whiteoak River by side of the river swamp at Wm. Wells's fence and Grant's creek, Nathaniel Wells's line; which is part of larger tract granted to William Wells, Sr., and which 100 acres was left by John Dudley deceased to his wife, Elizabeth Dudley, during her natu­rallife and after her death to William Dudley, son of John Dudley de­ceased. This land to become property of Stephen Lee after death of Elizabeth Dudley. Tests: Jno. Milton, John Starkey, Wm. Cray, David Dudley.

June 6, 1804. Caty Wells to Christopher B. Jones for 25 pounds land on Turkey Branch and north side of Grant's creek, which sd. 175 acres is the same tract I sold Gunby Conoway 100 acres out of the land whereon I formerly lived. A patent to John Dudley, May 2, 1741, and deeded to John Wells. Tests: Jno. Rector, Solomon Melville.[2]
