George Dumbell was born in Lancashire, England.

George was born in Liverpool, Lancashire, England, on June 15, 1863. His parents were Thomas Dumbell, a watchmaker, and Ann Fairclough. He was the fifth of seven children. George was baptized on July 12, 1863, in Liverpool, at Saint Peter Church. George resided with his family in various locations in Liverpool, until his marriage in 1896.

George married Margaret Elizabeth Parkinson on August 12, 1896, in Highbury Park, London, at Saint John Church. Margaret was nine years George's junior. It was the first marriage for both. George became a book publisher, and the couple returned to Lancashire, residing in Toxteth Park, and Wavertree between 1901, and 1911. They would have four children between 1897, and 1905. George passed away on April 23, 1948, in Liverpool. His personal effects were left to daughter, Annie Doreen Dumbell, Spinster.
