John Duncan was born on 3 February 1737 in Leslile, Fife, Scotland, son of George Duncan (~1712–~1772) and Janet Scot (~1716– ).^[1]

John (29) married Agnes Grub (22) (born on 1 September 1743 in Crail, Fife, Scotland; daughter of George Grub and Margaret (Hog) Grub) on 18 April 1766 in Kingsbarns, Fife, Scotland.^[2] Their children were:

1. John Duncan (26 June 1766 – unknown)
2. Christan Duncan (10 April 1769 – unknown)
3. George Duncan (10 April 1769 – unknown)
4. Andrew Duncan (24 September 1771 – unknown)
