He was in Company F 20th Regiment of Maine Infantry Volunteers from July 1, 1862 to June 4, 1865. He was wounded in the battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia on Dec 13, 1862 where he lost part of the right fore finger. His injury was a result of a musket bullet from the Rebel ranks.
