In 1932, David was living at the Salvation Army Hotel at 120 Washington Street. A policeman accused David of panhandling, leading to an altercation that resulted in David being seriously injured; he died Saturday night, 7 May 1932, in the hospital. He reportedly was age 70 [born circa 1862]. Circumstances of David's death were investigated; the question was whether the policeman caused his death. Twelve witnesses testified. The Coroner ruled that death was the result of brain damage due to alcoholism.[11]
