Biography

US Black Heritage Project
Doctor Durham is a part of US Black heritage.

Doctor was born about 1790 in Virginia. He and his wife Lackey were emancipated on 13 May 1850 by Sally Reeves. Doctor and Lackey posted the required bond with Joel C Durham, Abram Harding and Sarah Reeves as their securities.[1][2]

He and Lockey made a declaration of marriage at the Taylor County courthouse on 23 June 1866, stating that they had lived together for 49 years.[3]

They were the parents of at least the following children who were mentioned in his will:[4]

  • James H Durham
  • William G Durham
  • Doctor Durham
  • Robin Durham
  • Thorton Durham
  • Parthena Durham
  • Eliza Jane Durham

Doctor passed away in September 1869 In Taylor County, Kentucky.[5]
