Y-DNA: 23andMe reports the Y haplogroup of a male line descendant as R-P311.
BIRTH: Thomas's probable sons have implied birth years ranging from 1809 to 1822, so 1780 is a wild guess at his own birth year.
In Cuilmore in Griffith's Valuation (15 Nov 1856), Martin Durkan (Pat.) occupied (no. 14) a house with rateable annual valuation of 5 shillings on 9a 1r 23p, sharing 16a 3r 37p of bog (no. 16) with his namesake Martin Durkan (Thos.), who occupied a house with rateable annual valuation of 10 shillings (no. 15) on 14a 1r 18p. Is it possible that they were first cousins, named after a common grandfather, i.e. that Thomas Durkan was the son of a Martin Durkan? Other nearby holdings were shared in similar fashion by men who were apparently not so closely related.
There is DNA evidence of a close relationship between descendants of various Durkans and Foleys from Cuilmore and vicinity, including this man. For further details, see this discussion.
