On August 15, 1917, Samuel was called into active service and was trained at the Plattsburgh Training Camp [[1]]; between the Saranac River and Lake Champlain; Samuel served overseas from July 16, 1918 to May 3, 1919 and then was Honorably discharged (without any wounds) on May 8, 1919[7][8].
On August 18, 1917, Samuel (24) married Mary Ballard (21) in Maine; Reverend Joseph Rankin Duryee officiated the ceremony[9][10][11][12].
In 1920, Samuel (26) continued to live at 139 East 36th Street with his father Joseph (66) and also with his wife Mary (23), their son Samuel Sloan Duryee Jr (1 6/12), Irish maid Nellie Robbins (24) and Irish maid Susan Robbins (32); Samuel worked as a banker[13].
In 1930, Samuel (36) lived at 243 East 48th Street in Manhattan with his wife Mary (34), son Samuel Jr. (11), daughter Nina Duryee (8), English maid Beryl Adams (27) and Scottish maid Mary Houston (29): Samuel practiced as a lawyer[14].
On August 2, 1939, Samuel (45) and his wife Mary (43) sailed on the S.S. M.S. Kungsholm [[2]], from Gothenburg and arrived at the port of New York on August 11, 1939; at the time they lived at 243 E. 48th Street, in New York City[15].
In 1940, Samuel (46) continued to live at 243 E. 48th with his wife Mary (44), son Samuel Jr. (21), daughter Nina (18), Irish Governess Lina Fleming (41), English Handyman Frederick Roberts (62) and Irish Cook Mary Roberts (50); Samuel still practiced as a lawyer[16].
On March 16, 1951, Samuel (57) and Mary (55) sailed from New York on the S.S. Santa Paula [[3]] and arrived in New York on March 28, 1951[17][18].
Samuel Sloan Duryee (85/86) passed away on April 27, 1979, in New York and is buried in Saint Philip's Church Cemetery in Garrison, Putnam, New York [[4]] [19][20].
