Catherine Duval lived in Paris, France in the middle of the 17th. century. She was likely born between about 1613 to 1618. Her parents were Laurent Duval and Anne Lebel. Her father or perhaps both parents were porters in the Bayeux region. She is known to have married Andre Dupuis, in June 1633 at Paris. Andre was a "“compagnon de rivière", or a boatman on the canal barges. He was the son of Pierre Dupuy, also a "compagnon de rivière", and Denise.
Catherine and Andre are known to have had at least one child, a daughter, Catherine who was born in Paris about 1644. As Catherine went to Quebec in 1663 as a Fille du Roi, it is possible that her parents had both died by that time. Little else is known about Andre or his wife.
