Sergeant Fay Dyer was taken prisoner on 1 Apr1863 and 3 Jul 1863, paroled each time during United States Civil War.
Fayette was a Civil War veteran. He was living in Manchester, Vermont when he enlisted in the Union Army's Company G, 1st Regiment, Vermont Cavalry on 26 Sep 1861. He mustered in as Corporal on 19 Nov 1861 for three years service. He was taken prisoner on 1 Apr 1863 and paroled on 7 Apr 1863, and taken prisoner again on 3 Jul 1863 and paroled in September. He mustered out as Sergeant on 26 Sep 1865.[2][3]
The 1st Vermont Cavalry was mustered into service on 19 Nov 1861 at Burlington, Vermont. The Regiment was engaged in the Battles of Winchester, Gettysburg, Winchester (third battle) and Cedar Creek. They were mustered out on 9 Aug 1865.[4]
He married Emeline L Beebe (1847-1920) on January 8, 1868, in Manchester, Vermont.[5] They had no children.
In 1870, Fayette (age 32) and Emma (age 34) lived with his parent's in Coloma Township, Whiteside, Illinois, where he worked as a comision Merchant.[6]
They moved on west to California.
In 1900, at age 62, he and Emeline-53, lived in Pasadena, Los Angeles, California, where he was employed as Hardware Comercal Traveling salesman. [7] In 1910, they were retired.[8]
His wife Emeline passed away at age 74, on December 6, 1920, in Los Angeles, California.[9]
He died on March 13, 1924, at the age of 85, in Pasadena, California,[10] and was buried in the Mountain View Cemetery and Mausoleum in Altadena, Los Angeles, California.[1][11]
