Biography

John Edmondson was born in Lancashire, England.

John was a painter.

John Jackson Edmondson (1845-1906) was born in 1845 in Toxteth Park. He was the son of a plumber & painter, Thomas Edmondson and Jane Barker. ^[1]

The family lived at Carlton Street, Toxteth Park around the time of his birth (details from his brother's burial) but had moved to Park Road, Toxteth Park before the 1851 census. ^[2] He grew up there and when he left school he was employed as a printer and compositor ^[3] but didn't stay in that profession, choosing instead to follow in his father's footsteps becoming a painter.

He married Elizabeth Budworth Bore on the 28th April 1867 at Holy Trinity church, Toxteth Park and at that time was employed as a painter. ^{[4] [5]}

They started their family the following year at Fairview Place in Toxteth Park with the birth of John George who would be the first of 10 children. ^[6] Although his occupation would remain constant for the next 30 years, his address changed frequently depending upon the availability of work. Thomas Jackson (1869) arrived the following year ^[7] and he was followed by Hunter (1872), Ann Jane (1874) and William Charles (1876). ^[8]

Up until this point they had remained within the Toxteth park district living latterly on Hawkstone Street ^[9] but they then moved to Eccleston near Prescot where Arthur Jackson (1878) arrived. ^[10] They had been on Albion Street then but moved to Clyde Street, Eccleston before the 1881 census. ^[11]

They returned to Toxteth Park where they completed their family before the 1891 census with Elizabeth Budworth (1883), Henry (1885), Frederick (1888) and Ethel (1890). In 1891 they lived on Tagus Street ^[12] and stayed there until 1893 when they moved to Albert Edward Road, Kensington in Liverpool ^[13] for 5 years.

1901 brought a change of occupation as well as address. The family had moved to Winslow Street in Walton north Liverpool and John was employed as a cotton porter. ^[14]

He was living at 194 Gloucester Road, Bootle, Lancashire when he died in December 1906. ^[15]

He was buried on the 26th December 1906 in Kirkdale Cemetery, Liverpool. ^[16]
