Biography

Richard James Edwards was born in 1884 in Victoria, Australia, son of Richard James Edwards and Bridget McMahon.^[1]

Richard married Emily King, a widow, in 1910. ^[2]

Richard and Emily had one daughter - Irene.

He enlisted in the 8th Battalion Australian Infantry on the 28 July 1915, and reached the rank of Lance Corporal. His serial number was 3088. He died from wounds on the 24 October 1917 and buried in the Bedford House Cemetery, West Vlaanderen, Belgium. His grave is in Plot 5, Row B, Grave 21. ^{[3] [4]}

His mother inserted a death notice in a Melbourne paper:

EDWARDS. — Died of wounds, in France, on 24th October, Richard James, the dearly beloved youngest son of Bridget and the late Richard James Edwards, of 90 Park-street, North Fitzroy, much loved brother of Annie and step-brother of Mrs. Hedley, John Carr, James Carr, and Mrs. Cashman. ^[5]
