Biography

Elmer Calvin Eisenhower attended the Kansas City Veterinary College successfully passing a rigid entry requirement equal to a class A high school course. He worked at night to pay expenses and completed a full three years course with high honors, and on March 30, 1910 was elected Valedictorian of his class of 154 members. However, owing to an illness contracted during an epidemic that was prevalent at that particular time, he was not permitted to participate in the graduating exercises.

Doctor Eisenhower began his practice in 1910 in Gypsum, Kansas, where he remained until 1925, from there he relocated in Salina, Kansas. Following the death of his father on January 16, 1926, he moved to Navarre in June 1927 to help his mother and so built a practice in the Navarre Community. His devotion to his mother and attitude toward the other menbers of the family was characteristic of a true son and loving brother. He was regarded as a capable successful veterinarian with a large practice. (Testimony of his work, many farmers within the community stated that they would rather have Dr. Eisenhower blitzen with the drink, than any other sober vetarinary in the county.)

His premature death took place in the Carriage house of the home in Navarre, found Sunday morning with a gunshot blast to his head, being 53 years old. Those of his immediate family who survive pause in beriverment at his sudden departure. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. A. Kinzie and Rev. g. Engle at the Navarre Church of the Brethren, Wednesday, September 14, 1937 at 11 AM. Burial was made in the Navarre cemetery.
